Description
A young woman fleeing a manipulative relationship arrives at an isolated seaside commune where charismatic residents welcome her with open arms—and a sense that something miraculous is just within reach. As queer, feel-good cosmic horror seeps into the idyll, she’s drawn into a world of strange rituals, unsettling devotion to a revered leader, and creeping signs that the island itself is rotting from the inside out. When disappearances, impossible sounds, and a forbidden ocean begin to warp reality, her new community’s love starts to look uncomfortably like the control she escaped. Blending Hester Steel’s sharp, intimate voice with Lovecraftian dread, the story explores gaslighting, emotional abuse, and the fierce reclamation of agency—until rage becomes both a weapon and a way to survive what can’t be named.

it’s 2005 and “the faceless thing we adore” has just auditioned on american idol. it gave a jaw dropping performance (in a bad way) and is both delusional and adamant that it’s done well. it’s argued with simon cowell about the merits of its skill and surely the judges just don’t understand. i am randy jackson across the table doing my best to be polite: it’s a no from me, dawg.
