Description

In this dazzling debut collection, a series of intimate, sharply observed stories explores how love and obligation bind people across generations, relationships, and borders. From desperate acts of creation to uneasy alliances and the lingering aftershocks of war, each narrative turns on a single emotional pressure point—revealing how family ties, desire, and home can both shelter and destabilize. With a world that ranges from the domestic to the speculative, the book asks what it truly means to “fix” a person, and what unintended consequences follow when we try to control the human equation. Lesley Nneka Arimah’s lyrical, playful, and subversive style—grounded in Nigerian life and global concerns—makes these stories feel at once intimate and startlingly expansive.

straight up just one of the coolest short story anthologies i’ve read with such a strong through-line and literary voice. powerful girlhood, violence, and survival imbued at times with magical realism.
