Description
When Antigone wakes to find the black hound of Death waiting at her door, she recognizes the family pattern—and instead of fleeing, she invites it in. What begins as an eerie, comforting presence soon becomes a reckoning with the life she’s been living on borrowed breath: the parts of herself she’s hollowed out for others, the exhaustion she’s learned to call normal, and the quiet ways she’s been postponing her own rest. In Cassandra Khaw’s hauntingly lyrical style, Death is not only an ending but a catalyst, pressing Antigone to decide what it truly means to live on purpose. As the hound’s arrival tightens its grip, Antigone must confront the cost of a “good death” and the price of finally choosing herself—before the moment to let go closes forever.

thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for a review. "find me where it ends" is a quiet, lumbering waltz of a novella. less of a horror story and more of a literary fiction with magical realism, "find me where it ends" chronicles the immediate life of antigone as she grapples with no longer wanting to live it. a candid look at the weight of depression and the lengths we go to to rationalize our right to leave, the novella dances back and forth between allowance and begging. clearly autobiographical in some nature, khaw lets the reader see antigone's black dog for what it is and see the opportunities we have to make a choice that will change everything—addressing it all without shame. narratively the story packs a punch somehow delivered like a gentle kiss, but structurally it struggles. a mixture of nonlinear events and stories within sentences that run the length of a paragraph detracted from the novella's ability to carry the plot. not infrequently khaw will drag a sentence on using verbose language and side notes (placed in the middle of the the sentence in parenthesis). this didn't work for me, but may work well for other readers. what did work is the second half of the novella which is far more introspective and delivered with less obstruction. any fan of khaw will enjoy this addition to their bibliography.
