Description

Young Antonio Márez's life is irrevocably changed with the arrival of Ultima, an elderly curandera who comes to live with his family. As Antonio stands on the cusp of manhood, Ultima's wisdom and mystical healing powers guide him through a tumultuous childhood filled with prejudice, spiritual turmoil, and violence. Under her watchful eye, Antonio grapples with his family's conflicting legacies—the pastoral Marez and the farming Luna—and the deep-seated tension between indigenous paganism and Catholicism. This coming-of-age story explores themes of faith, identity, and the enduring power of cultural heritage, as Antonio seeks to understand his place in a world shaped by ancient myths and modern struggles.
