Description

When a summer of heat and boredom turns into something far stranger, Owen Todd finds his quiet world pulled toward a mystery he can’t ignore. As clues surface and relationships shift, he’s forced to confront what he’s been avoiding—about family, fear, and the stories people tell to make sense of the past. Blending suspense with coming-of-age insight, the novel explores how courage is built in small moments and how truth can arrive when you least expect it. Tony Abbott’s accessible, character-driven style delivers a tense, emotionally resonant read that lingers long after the last page.

A review for Tony Abbott's The Summer of Owen Todd seems diminutive in nature compared to the HUGE issue that is tackled within these pages.

Owen and Sean are best friends living in Cape Cod and getting ready for a typical summer of tourists flowing in and out of the sleepy and charming community. Sean's mom gets a new job out of town and he is left with a sitter to watch over him while she is out of the house.

The summer starts as all the rest, but quickly turns sideways as Sean confides in Owen some strange happenings with the sitter. A summer of their youth and innocence is slowly taken away from them and changes them both for the rest of their lives.

I was left talking to myself on a number of occasions about what I would have done in Owen's shoes, which I think Tony Abbott may have been trying for.

I ultimately think that a story like this put in the right hands at the right time could save a life or two!
