Description
Collected in a custom slipcase, this landmark two-volume graphic novel follows ten-year-old Karen Reyes, a devoted lover of monster magazines who investigates the mysterious death of her upstairs neighbor in 1960s Chicago. As her search unfolds through richly illustrated diary pages, the story moves among family secrets, political unrest, artistic obsession, and the complicated ways people understand themselves and one another. Both intimate and vividly imaginative, the work uses the language of horror and fantasy to explore grief, identity, violence, and resilience, creating an unforgettable portrait of a child confronting the adult world.
