Description
In Victorian Ireland, Aleen Cust defies convention to pursue a calling almost entirely closed to women: veterinary medicine. As she builds a life caring for animals and earning the respect of her community, professional institutions and social expectations conspire to deny her the recognition she has worked so hard to achieve. Set against a changing world, this inspiring historical novel explores courage, ambition, resilience, and the price of challenging entrenched prejudice. Richly researched and vividly told, it celebrates an extraordinary woman who refused to be defined by the limits of her time.
