Description

In a world where the smallest things can carry the heaviest consequences, a young person confronts the slow, unsettling spread of “rot”—not only in bodies and places, but in relationships, systems, and the stories people tell to survive. As they navigate grief, fear, and the pressure to perform normalcy, the narrative moves with urgency and intimacy, blending the personal with the political. With Akwaeke Emezi’s distinctive, lyrical intensity, the book explores themes of decay and renewal, identity and belonging, and the ways communities respond when something is wrong but no one wants to name it. Part coming-of-age, part haunting reckoning, it offers a powerful meditation on what it means to heal—and what it costs to look directly at the rot.
