Description

In 18th-century England, the small village of Little Nettlebed is already thick with omens—river-creatures that shouldn’t exist, ravens that seem to gather for the dying, and whispers that something uncanny has been living just beneath everyday life. When five Mansfield sisters begin to be accused of turning into dogs, the rumor spreads from fascination to fear, and the village’s rotating perspectives reveal how quickly prejudice can dress itself up as certainty. As barking is heard where it shouldn’t be and witnesses insist they’ve seen the impossible, the sisters become a mirror for the community’s anxieties about difference, belonging, and the cost of being misunderstood. Blending gothic unease with sharp social observation, this debut channels the tension of a witch-trial atmosphere while asking whether the real transformation is the one the villagers choose to believe.
