Description

Twenty-five years ago, seven-year-old Libby Day was the sole survivor of a massacre that claimed her mother and two sisters, an event for which her teenage brother, Ben, was convicted. Now an adult, Libby is struggling financially and decides to capitalize on the notoriety of her past by attending a reunion of the 'Satanic Panic' cult she believes her brother was part of. However, as she delves deeper into the events of that fateful night, Libby begins to question the testimony that sent her brother to prison and uncovers a truth far more disturbing than she ever imagined. Gillian Flynn masterfully weaves a tale of unreliable narration, fractured family dynamics, and the dark secrets that fester beneath the surface of seemingly ordinary lives.

Dark Places turns its attention to the Satanic cult hysteria that swept the United States in the 1980s, telling the story of a family massacre, the youngest child who survived, and the brother who was found guilty and sentenced to 24 years in prison. Gillian Flynn's writing style seems to pull me in and keep me reading at a fast pace; she weaves suspenseful stories that rocket you through the pages in a frenzied whirlwind of curiosity and expectation.
