Description
In the hush of winter and the pull of the unknown, a remote landscape becomes the stage for a story of longing, reinvention, and the fragile ways people learn to live with loss. As lives intersect across the “black woods” and toward a brighter horizon, characters confront what they’ve carried for years—secrets, grief, and the hope that something better might still be possible. With lyrical, emotionally precise storytelling, the novel explores themes of nature’s power, the search for belonging, and the quiet courage it takes to begin again. Blending atmosphere-rich prose with a deeply human core, it offers a moving, page-turning journey that feels both intimate and expansive.

I loved the Snow Child so much and have read it countless times; this felt like such an anticlimax after years of waiting for another book! It kept the beautiful descriptions of Alaska but lost the innocence and wistfulness of the Snow Child; this was a much grittier and harsher story and the characters were not that likeable ❄️
