Description

In modern-day Toronto, a missing visitor threatens the carefully maintained prosperity of Lake Argen—a town that has long survived by honoring a generations-old bargain with something dark. When a private investigator arrives to uncover what happened, Cassidy Prewitt, the town baker and unwitting “family business” liaison to the eldritch force, is pulled into a spiraling mystery where the house rules are changing. As darkness gathers and the town turns increasingly hostile, Cassidy and the PI must navigate snark, scares, and growing feelings that neither of them expected to survive. Blending cozy horror with a queer romance at its heart, this stand-alone novel from Tanya Huff delivers sharp character work, playful dread, and themes of chosen family, inherited obligations, and the courage to break cycles—before the apocalypse comes knocking.
