Description
A brooding summer in Gilead, New Jersey, turns into something far darker when a graduate student and Gothic literature teacher arrives to focus on his dissertation—only to discover that the town’s strict religious order has its own unsettling rules. In New York, a reserved librarian struggling to get by forms an unexpected connection with him, and their relationship begins to unfold on “strange terms” that neither can fully explain. As a mysterious old man pulls the threads from the shadows, their lives become part of a larger, ritual-driven design aimed at restoring what has been absent for a very long time. Blending psychological dread with gothic atmosphere, the novel explores obsession, faith, and the thin line between romance and control in T. E. D. Klein’s signature style of creeping horror and literary unease.
