Description

A young Kosovar man living in Finland, Bekim, tries to outrun the pressures of identity, desire, and belonging—only to find his life pulled into strange, unsettling turns. In a Finnish gay bar he encounters an anthropomorphic cat, a relationship that grows into both obsession and harm, while Bekim’s attempts to “commit” to something lead him down increasingly fractured paths. Across time and memory, he returns—physically and emotionally—to the former Yugoslavia, and later meets Emine, an ambitious Muslim Albanian whose dreams collide with the limits imposed on her. With a temporally complex, darkly comic edge, this debut by Pajtim Statovci explores love as both refuge and risk, and asks what it means to heal when fear, history, and power keep rewriting the future.
