Description
A young newspaper copyboy, Victor Vollmer, sets out to honor a final wish from his aging neighbor and mentor, Mr. Spiro—carrying his ashes to the Mississippi River’s mouth. What begins as a personal pilgrimage quickly becomes a tense journey through a shifting, unfamiliar world, where Victor’s courage and hard-won confidence are tested at every turn. Along the way, he forms an unlikely partnership with Philomene, whose sharp insight and steady resolve help him navigate danger and uncertainty. Set against the looming force of Hurricane Betsy, this coming-of-age adventure blends themes of memory, mentorship, and the search for belonging with Vince Vawter’s distinctive, character-driven storytelling and vivid sense of place.
