Description
When escalating violence reaches Jude’s seaside hometown in Syria, the twelve-year-old and her pregnant mother leave for Cincinnati, Ohio, while Jude’s father and brother remain behind. Told in lyrical free verse, this moving coming-of-age story follows Jude as she navigates a new language, school, culture, and family life while carrying the ache of separation from home. Through new friendships, moments of prejudice, and unexpected connections, Jude discovers the resilience to embrace her heritage while finding her own sense of belonging. The novel explores identity, immigration, family, friendship, courage, and the many meanings of home with warmth and emotional honesty.
