Description

In an unnamed coastal city where refugees have gathered, a mother searches the cliffside roads for her missing daughter, her grief escalating into a desperate act that leaves her other children behind. Witnessing the tragedy is another woman—newly pregnant, traveling for work—whose own losses echo back through the memories of a family flight from a distant war, including the slow disappearance of language, country, and self. Moving between these intertwined lives, the novel traces how motherhood can become both refuge and burden, and how history persists in the body, in speech, and in silence. With lyrical intensity and formally ambitious craft, it challenges inherited European perspectives and reframes language as something fragile, stolen, and remade. The result is a devastating, compassionate meditation on migration, memory, and the many forms of loss that refuse to stay in the past.
