Soviet Land: A Tragicomic Thriller Graphic Novel
Description
In the chaotic aftermath of the Soviet Union’s collapse, former painter Slava and his old schoolmate Lavrin make a precarious living scavenging relics from a crumbling empire and selling them to eager collectors. As their dubious ventures carry them across the Russian wilderness and through a lawless new economy, the pair must navigate shifting loyalties, desperate schemes, and the ghosts of ideals that never came to pass. Blending suspense, dark humor, and melancholy, this graphic novel explores survival, friendship, the commodification of history, and the fragile hope of beginning again. Pierre-Henry Gomont’s vividly human storytelling captures ordinary people stumbling through a nation in upheaval.
