Description

In the isolated village of Scots Bay, Nova Scotia, Dora Rare, the first daughter born in five generations, finds herself drawn to the unconventional wisdom of Miss Babineau, an Acadian midwife steeped in herbal remedies and folk healing. As World War I casts a shadow over their community, Dora apprentices under Miss Babineau, tending to the women of Scots Bay through every aspect of their reproductive lives. When a modern doctor arrives, challenging traditional practices, Dora is thrust into a solitary fight to preserve the invaluable birthing knowledge passed down to her, even as she navigates the complexities of a changing world.
