Description
In a small village stranded in Ukraine’s Grey Zone—caught between loyalist and separatist forces—retired safety inspector turned beekeeper Sergey Sergeyich keeps going with little more than hope, routine, and his bees. As sporadic violence and relentless propaganda shape everyday life, spring arrives with a single, fragile mission: move the hives to safer ground so the colony can gather pollen in peace. Along the way, Sergeyich encounters combatants and civilians across shifting loyalties, where his childlike sincerity and moral steadiness both soften hearts and invite manipulation. Blending warm, wry humor with a clear-eyed political sensibility, this novel explores survival, conscience, and the ways ordinary people are pulled into extraordinary conflict—asking what it means to remain humane when every choice can be weaponized.
