Seldom does a film warrant a running time of over two hours and similarly, books running up to and over 500 pages are equally unwarranted. Under the Dome weighs in at a hefty 877, a vast majority of which could have been generously edited with minor damage to the story.

If you want a post-apocalyptic horror/fantasy novel (with perhaps less science fiction involved) read The Stand - well worth an extra 447 pages for the sense of satisfaction you feel once you have battled your way through reading it.
