Description

In the midst of World War I, a young woman named Sophie is left behind in occupied France when her artist husband, Edouard, goes to fight. Her portrait, painted by Edouard, captures the attention of a German officer, leading Sophie to make dangerous choices to survive and hold onto hope. Nearly a century later, the same portrait finds its way to Liv Halston, whose life is upended by its discovery and a subsequent battle over its ownership. This novel explores themes of love, loss, art, and the enduring power of the past, all while testing the boundaries of what is right.
