Description

Jean Cocteau's seminal 1929 novel, *Les Enfants Terribles*, plunges readers into a world of intense, claustrophobic intimacy between siblings Paul and Elisabeth. Confined to their shared room, they create an elaborate fantasy world, a 'poisonous' sanctuary from the harsh realities outside. As their games escalate and their bond deepens into something dangerously obsessive, the lines between reality and illusion blur, leading to tragic consequences. Cocteau's prose, both poetic and stark, masterfully explores themes of adolescent alienation, the destructive power of imagination, and the perilous nature of codependency.
