A Confederacy of Dunces
Description
Ignatius J. Reilly, a forty-year-old, slovenly, and opinionated medievalist, considers himself a scholar unjustly exiled to the modern world. When financial desperation forces him out of his mother's dilapidated French Quarter apartment, Ignatius embarks on a series of disastrous and hilarious misadventures. From working in a pants factory to navigating the seedy underbelly of New Orleans, his encounters with a cast of unforgettable characters—including a beatnik, a pornographer, and a fundamentalist—are as absurd as they are profound. This Pulitzer Prize-winning novel is a riotous exploration ofBohemianism, societal expectations, and the enduring search for meaning in a world that often makes little sense.

A book that will completely divide opinions; A Confederacy of Dunces is an American "comic masterpiece," a classic farce full of characters you hate to love and love to hate. The book's protagonist, Ignatius J. Reilly, is a hugely obese and obnoxious man who is horrifically rude to his mother (and pretty much everyone else) and I couldn't help but like him. I relished every cringe-worthy, shockingly foul and unpleasant word that spilled from his mouth and I couldn't wait to find out what this idiot would do next.
