Description
A queer Asian American writer navigates the strange, urgent messages that arrive when “family” is both a refuge and a responsibility. Across a landscape shaped by Trump-era politics, mass shootings, and the COVID-19 pandemic, these poems and stories trace what we inherit—history, identity, fear—and what we invent to survive: chosen kin, new rituals, and the language to name grief. With Chen Chen’s intimate, observant style, the collection turns everyday emergencies into a larger meditation on love, vulnerability, and the systems that endanger us. Ultimately, it asks how we stay connected when the world keeps breaking, and what it means to answer the call for one another.

an absolutely frantic word jumble of a collection with continually deteriorating clarity. i by far prefer chen chen’s other collection “when i grow up i want to be a list of further possibilities” over this one.
