Description

In a world where power is negotiated through language, law, and everyday choices, this novel follows characters caught in the long shadow of colonization and the systems it leaves behind. As their lives intersect, the story explores how identity is shaped—and constrained—by inherited narratives, cultural displacement, and the struggle to claim agency in the present. With sharp, contemporary insight and a lyrical, character-driven approach, it examines themes of belonging, resistance, and the uneasy work of decolonization. Blending personal stakes with broader social critique, the book invites readers to consider what it means to “colonize” and, just as urgently, what it takes to unmake that impulse.

“Saddle a colt in its youth load it with a heavy enough burden to buckle its knees. Then when you mount him the weight of a grown man will seem less than the whole world.” / “If you know that I am the horse please remember I was once just a boy.”

this collection was jaw breaking at times and like a dripping slow faucet at others. i couldn’t connect with every poem, but the ones i did were like lightning. so glad i found this on my library app.
