Description

Spanning centuries and generations, Daniel Mason's *North Woods* unfolds against the backdrop of a single, ancient forest in western Massachusetts. The narrative weaves together disparate lives—from early Puritan settlers and enslaved girls to button manufacturers and modern-day scientists—all connected by the enduring presence of the woods and a mysterious yellow house. Mason masterfully crafts a story where nature itself becomes a living character, exploring themes of ecological change, human ambition, and the indelible marks we leave on the world. This ambitious novel offers a profound meditation on time, memory, and the intricate relationship between humanity and the natural landscape.

Really interesting read. It took me about 50-75 pages to understand the structure and where it was going, but it got progressively better and I was very invested to see how the story unfolded and tied together. Not the most exciting, plot-driven book, but I'd recommend it if you're looking for a beautifully written story with a unique structure.
