Description
In Curtis Sittenfeld's sharp and insightful debut, a scholarship student navigates the complex social landscape of an elite New England boarding school. Lee Fiora, an outsider from Indiana, finds herself both captivated and intimidated by the privileged world of Ault School, where she meticulously observes and attempts to assimilate into the rituals of her affluent peers. As Lee grapples with intense friendships, complicated relationships with teachers, and a consuming adolescent crush, she crafts a precarious identity within the school's cloistered walls. However, a public and self-destructive act threatens to unravel everything she has painstakingly built, leading to a poignant exploration of social class, ambition, and the universal pains and triumphs of growing up.
