Description

Alice Andrews, a Manhattan resident and Newark reporter recovering from a disastrous romance, unexpectedly meets Jack Russworm, a polished, Harvard-educated doctor who seems to offer the promise of something lasting. As their relationship deepens, Alice finds herself navigating his privileged social world, including his guarded mother and the lingering presence of his impeccably pedigreed ex-girlfriend. Caught between attraction and self-doubt, Alice must confront questions of class, identity, respectability, and what it means to be accepted without disguising who she is. With wit and social insight, the novel explores romance and Black identity amid the pressures of ambition and status.
