Description
Spanning generations, this powerful historical novel follows two Black women confronting the enduring legacies of racism, exploitation, and family trauma. In 1925, prosperous farmer Josephine forms an uneasy bond with her white neighbor, Charlotte, whose hidden allegiances place Josephine’s family in danger. Nearly a century later, Josephine’s descendant Ava moves in with her wealthy white grandmother, only to find herself trapped in a volatile relationship that echoes the past. Blending historical fiction with elements of magical realism, the novel explores survival, inheritance, motherhood, and the complicated ties that bind families across time.
