Description
When a young German student is found brutally murdered in Reykjavík—his eyes gouged out and cryptic symbols carved into his chest—Thora Gudmundsdottir, a recently divorced lawyer with a talent for digging beneath polished surfaces, is pulled into a case that refuses to stay buried. Hired by a wealthy German family desperate for answers about their son Harald, Thora traces the crime through Icelandic history and the university’s shadowed corridors, where old beliefs and new resentments collide. As evidence points toward something more than a simple killing, Thora must confront the unsettling ways the past can echo into the present. With Yrsa Sigurðardóttir’s sharp, atmospheric storytelling and psychologically driven suspense, this novel blends mystery, cultural tension, and the haunting power of ritual and memory.
