Description

In a dry, fire-prone landscape where eucalyptus plantations have pushed too far into the natural world, a farm worker named Pedro begins to cough—and soon a deadly fungal disease that has never before crossed into humans claims his coworkers. When Pedro survives, his strange mutterings draw the attention of a foreign mycologist and a local priest, who interpret his words as something between scientific anomaly and prophecy. As Pedro’s children, Cata and Patricio, struggle to decode his condition and keep themselves alive, their attempts to understand what’s happening collide with the terrifying logic of a world that’s fighting back. Blending speculative dread with intimate family stakes, this debut explores themes of ecological collapse, contagion, belief versus knowledge, and the thin line between miracle and menace in a tense, disorienting narrative.
