The House with the Blind Glass Windows
Women in translationDescription
In a remote Norwegian fishing village, young Tora navigates a year shadowed by a tragic legacy and the growing menace of her stepfather. As the child of a Norwegian mother and a German soldier, she lives under the weight of her mother's shame and sorrow, a burden amplified by her stepfather's bitterness and abuse. This powerful novel delves into themes of survival, resilience, and the search for identity amidst profound hardship and isolation. Wassmo's evocative prose paints a stark yet poignant portrait of a young girl's struggle for a future.
