Description
In this darkly whimsical novel, an eleven-year-old girl named Natsuki feels so alienated from her family and the world that she believes she must be an alien. Her stuffed hedgehog, a confidant and fellow magician, is her only companion in navigating a reality filled with abuse and a profound sense of otherness. As Natsuki's unique perspective unfolds, the narrative delves into themes of anticonformity, asexuality, and the search for happiness within a world that often feels stifling and strange. Sayaka Murata masterfully blends the adorable with the obscene, creating a dreamlike, sometimes shocking, yet always wonderful exploration of what it truly means to be human—or perhaps, not human at all.
