Description
From her first drink at fourteen to a devastating wake-up call at twenty-two, Koren Zailckas chronicles her descent into a pattern of self-destructive drinking that mirrors the experiences of countless young women navigating adolescence and adulthood. This unflinching memoir captures how alcohol became a crutch for courage and a substitute for sound judgment, leading to escalating blackouts, dangerous situations, and a life spiraling increasingly out of control. With raw honesty and literary grace, Zailckas examines the cultural pressures and personal vulnerabilities that fueled her addiction, offering readers an intimate look at the hidden struggles of a generation of girls who aren't classified as alcoholics yet whose relationship with drinking has become dangerously destructive. A powerful testament to the journey toward self-awareness and recovery, Smashed resonates as both a cautionary tale and an inspiring account of one woman's decision to reclaim her life.
