Description
A biracial, queer, gender-swapped retelling of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, this novel follows three lives shaped by the margins of society and the ethics of creation. Plum, a queer biracial Chinese intern at a leading embryology lab, flees home for love only to find herself stranded—until a brilliant, morally complicated scientist offers her a role in a new project. Dr. Frank, a queer biracial Indonesian researcher, pursues reproduction and ambition with ruthless clarity, while the nonbinary creation she brings into the world is left behind after a devastating act of revenge. As Plum is pulled deeper into the machinery of scientific advancement, the story interrogates consent, power, and what it truly means to be responsible for the beings we make.
