Description

Fifteen-year-old Amari's life in her African village is shattered when slave traders violently abduct her and destroy her home. Branded and brutalized, she is forced onto a ship and sold into slavery in the American Carolinas. Amidst backbreaking labor and constant degradation, Amari clings to hope and finds unexpected alliances with an indentured girl named Polly and a compassionate plantation owner's wife. Together, they navigate the horrors of slavery, seeking freedom and holding onto their identities in a world determined to strip them away.
