Description
A vivid, accessible biography of Jean-Michel Basquiat, this book traces the making of a young artist whose raw talent and fearless imagination burst into the art world. Through scenes from his childhood and early creative life, it follows how Basquiat found his voice—drawing from music, street culture, history, and the people around him—while confronting the pressures and misunderstandings that often shadow gifted youth. With themes of creativity, identity, resilience, and the power of self-expression, it illuminates how art can be both a refuge and a form of truth-telling. Javaka Steptoe’s lyrical, visually driven storytelling captures Basquiat’s energy and legacy, offering readers an inspiring entry point into the life and work of one of modern art’s most electrifying figures.
