Absolute Batman

Scott Snyder

Stripped of the wealth, technology, and support system traditionally associated with Bruce Wayne, Batman must forge a new path as Gotham’s relentless protector. This bold reimagining explores the foundations of his mission, the cost of justice, and the raw determination required to confront a city’s most dangerous forces. Scott Snyder launches a fierce, modern take on the Dark Knight, combining high-stakes action with an intimate look at the making of a legend.

In a radically reimagined Gotham, Bruce Wayne has no fortune, mansion, or inherited empire—only hard-won intelligence, relentless determination, and a personal mission forged by childhood tragedy. Operating in the city’s most neglected neighborhoods, he becomes a fiercely physical and resourceful Batman who must build his war on crime from the ground up. This bold new origin explores justice, class, trauma, and the making of a hero when privilege and safety are stripped away. Gritty, urgent, and visually dynamic, the story offers a fresh take on the Dark Knight while preserving the core resolve that has defined him for generations.

Batman’s war on Gotham’s darkest forces intensifies when a dangerous investigation leads him into Ark M, a facility built to repair society’s broken—but capable of producing new forms of evil. There, Bruce Wayne confronts the Absolute Universe’s chilling incarnation of Mr. Freeze and uncovers disturbing connections among Victor Fries, the Joker, and the institution’s hidden experiments. As the brutal Bane emerges with a devastating plan to break Batman, Bruce and Waylon Jones are pushed through trials that test their strength, loyalty, and resolve. Blending psychological horror, high-stakes action, and grim questions about whether evil is created or unleashed, this volume collects Absolute Batman #7–14.
