And on the Seventh Day

Paulo Coelho

In the remote village of Viscos, a mysterious stranger arrives with a simple proposition: a notebook and eleven gold bars, offered in exchange for a question that cuts to the heart of human nature. As the villagers weigh temptation against conscience, their private fears and moral compromises begin to surface, turning everyday choices into a communal test of character. Guided by a parable-like, suspenseful structure, the story explores whether people are fundamentally good or capable of choosing evil when given the chance. With Paulo Coelho’s signature blend of allegory and lyrical reflection, this novel examines greed, courage, and the unsettling ways a community can become complicit in its own downfall.
