Avatar: the Last Airbender; The Promise

Gene Luen Yang

In the Southern Water Tribe, Fire Lord Zuko and Earth King Kuei arrive to help stabilize a fragile political landscape—only to find the community fractured by protests over Gilak’s imprisonment. As Malina and Hakoda’s unification plans come under pressure, Gilak’s escape ignites a rebellion that threatens to tear the region apart from within. Katara must confront the pull of nostalgia and the sting of distrust, choosing what—and who—to believe—before the conflict becomes permanent. Blending high-stakes action with character-driven emotion, this omnibus explores themes of justice, reconciliation, and the cost of leadership, in Gene Luen Yang’s accessible, story-forward style that expands the world of Avatar with fresh perspective.
