Cal Hooper

Tana French

In the rugged countryside of western Ireland, retired Chicago detective Cal Hooper has built a quiet new life, finding purpose in his relationship with Lena and in mentoring Trey Reddy, a fiercely independent local teenager. But when Trey’s long-absent father returns to Ardnakelty, old wounds and dangerous ambitions threaten the fragile community Cal has come to call home. As loyalties are tested and the promise of sudden wealth stirs long-buried grievances, the novel explores revenge, family, belonging, and the bonds we choose for ourselves. Combining the atmosphere of an Irish village mystery with the moral tensions of a Western, it offers Tana French’s character-driven, psychologically rich storytelling at its most compelling.
