The Cay

Theodore Taylor

A young white boy, blinded by a head injury sustained during a shipwreck, finds himself stranded on a small island with only an elderly black man named Timothy for company. Initially prejudiced and fearful, the boy must overcome his ingrained biases as his survival depends entirely on Timothy's wisdom and care. Through their shared ordeal, a profound bond forms, challenging the boy's perceptions of race and humanity. This powerful story explores themes of prejudice, survival, and the unexpected connections that can arise in the face of adversity.
