Dorothy Gentleman

Olivia Waite

When a mysterious infant appears on the HMS Fairweather—Her Majesty's most luxurious interstellar passenger liner—ship detective Dorothy Gentleman finds herself navigating one of her most perplexing cases yet. With fertility strictly forbidden during the voyage across the stars, the abandoned baby's origins become a puzzle that threatens to pit Dorothy against her rival detective Leloup, who sees the child as nothing more than contraband to be catalogued and contained. As Dorothy's nephew and his partner grow increasingly attached to the foundling, she must use all her shrewd detective work and considerable charm to uncover the truth before bureaucratic protocol turns a human life into mere paperwork. This second entry in Olivia Waite's cozy sci-fi mystery series brings the warmth and wit of classic detective fiction to the cosmos, blending the plot-twisty brilliance of Dorothy Sayers with the imaginative worldbuilding of contemporary science fiction. Perfect for readers seeking mysteries that are both intellectually satisfying and deeply humane, this novella delivers a captivating story that will leave you eager for the next installment.
