Drums, Girls & Dangerous Pie

Jordan Sonnenblick

When his five-year-old brother Jeffrey is diagnosed with leukemia, thirteen-year-old Steven's seemingly normal life—filled with jazz drums, school crushes, and sibling annoyances—is shattered overnight. As his family struggles to hold together through the devastating reality of childhood cancer, Steven must navigate the impossible terrain between adolescent concerns and adult heartbreak. Blending humor with raw emotional truth, this debut novel follows Steven through a transformative year that tests his resilience, redefines his priorities, and ultimately reveals what it means to be a brother when it matters most. Jordan Sonnenblick's compassionate storytelling captures both the lightness and weight of a family in crisis, creating a powerful coming-of-age narrative that will resonate with anyone who has faced life's unexpected challenges.
