Goodnight Punpun

Inio Asano

A quiet, unsettling coming-of-age tale follows Onodera Punpun—an ordinary child rendered in a striking, birdlike form—as he navigates the pressures of family dysfunction, shifting friendships, and the confusing pull of first love. As his adolescence approaches, his hyperactive inner world turns everything into a vivid, sometimes painful reckoning, blurring the line between innocence and emotional survival. With a blend of dark humor and razor-edged sincerity, this omnibus captures themes of alienation, obsession, and the ways people cope when love, stability, and identity refuse to cooperate. Inio Asano’s distinctive, emotionally direct storytelling makes the everyday feel hauntingly consequential, inviting readers to look closely at what it means to grow up when the world won’t hold still.
