An Inspector Llob mystery

Yasmina Khadra

Set in 1988, just before Algeria’s civil war erupts, this gripping detective novel follows Professor Allouche as he becomes convinced that a dangerous murderer is about to slip through the cracks of the city’s streets. Tasked with stopping the threat, Llob is pulled into a web of intimidation and moral compromise where the real danger isn’t only the killer—it’s the system that enables him. As the investigation unfolds, Khadra exposes corruption at the heart of policing and politics, showing how power, fear, and self-interest can distort justice from the inside. With Khadra’s sharp, suspenseful storytelling and socially incisive edge, the book delivers a tense mystery that doubles as a portrait of a society on the brink of collapse.
