Katya Hijazi and Nayir Sharqi

Zoë Ferraris

When sixteen-year-old Nouf ash-Shrawi, the daughter of a wealthy Saudi family, disappears into the desert, her apparent death leaves troubling questions behind. Nayir, a devout Palestinian guide, joins forces with Katya, a determined forensic technician, to uncover what happened—despite strict social customs that limit their investigation and keep them apart. Set against the stark landscapes and complex traditions of contemporary Saudi Arabia, this atmospheric mystery explores justice, gender, faith, class, and the boundaries of cultural expectation.
