Kyoichiro Kaga

Keigo Higashino

A bestselling novelist is found murdered in his locked home on the eve of his departure for Canada, leaving behind a seemingly impossible crime and a circle of suspects with carefully constructed alibis. Detective Kyoichiro Kaga soon focuses on the victim’s longtime friend, a fellow writer whose account of the events may conceal more than it reveals. Rather than asking only who committed the murder, the investigation probes why it happened—and how deception, envy, resentment, and the power of storytelling can reshape the truth. With its psychologically sharp, inverted mystery structure, the novel examines the subjectivity of memory and narration while delivering a sophisticated battle of wits.
