Medicus Investigations of Gaius Petreius Ruso

Ruth Downie

In Roman Britain, army doctor Gaius Petreius Ruso arrives at a remote outpost seeking a quieter life, only to find himself drawn into the investigation of a suspicious death. As he navigates military bureaucracy, local tensions, and the uneasy relationship between Romans and Britons, Ruso becomes entangled with Tilla, an enslaved woman whose knowledge may prove crucial. Blending meticulously observed historical detail with dry wit and an atmospheric mystery, the novel explores justice, power, cultural conflict, and the fragile bonds formed in a turbulent frontier society.
